What is CMMS

This was been my all time interest topic how to put automation in the system to minimise the error and reduce time and at the same time increase the accuracy. As a Solar Domain expert, the Computerised Maintenance Management System becomes basic need. Why basic need because the robust available system like SAP and Maximo are designed in a specific manner and need to utilise the same in similar fashion they designed. Also the cost of customisation and business model seems unfit for the solar energy specially small scale and medium scale projects. Followed by this concept there are lot of company want to be a part of the development program and want to make their own product using the knowledge of the solar developer or an operation and maintenance company. The software companies are offering a very attractive commercials to get their product ready. Unfortunately this becomes a dream because the procedure of development is not limited to few web page design and few data storage and report. The CMMS required a strategic planning of database, user interface and automation of data processing based on actual procedure followed.

The CMMS data in a non structured data hence the conventional database may not be able handle the large unstructured data. Starting from small photographic evidences to large check sheets and routine jobs. Further Solar Energy Maintenance Management System required Security, Mobility, Frequent Enhancement and reporting on the go. For Example the manager of a plant needs to take the decision then he should have an option to perform the same systematically.

The non-structured information in structured UI shall helps the Manager to take the action ensuring No Environmental Health and Safety Risk and also have high quality work culture and reporting.

When it comes to reporting for the Maintenance Company, more than 50% failed to demonstrate that their manpower is busy more than 100% event though they are. The Root Cause is simple because they do not capture the information in this way. Off-course if each timing requested to ask to technician (Example - When he got the job, when he took the permit, when he started the work, how many measurement he has done and at what time, when he closed the job and what are the pre and post scenario), he must be getting frustrate because the information is an over burden for him other then his work which he has to finish in his duty time. I have seen in my professional career, the technicians are finish their job and after that reaching to their office and preparing the documentation which was supposed to be while he was working. Why the technician is doing so? People gets frustrate and try to force to technician to do so instead of understanding the problem of that technician. I spent time to analyse the problem by talking to individual technicians and the 80% technician shared same problem. This mean there is a technical problem in the method of doing right hence they are doing wrong.

Then I started working followed by the problem and resolved their issues and now the technicians are happily working on CMMS and Enjoying their job. Even they are doing the same amount of work and still their complete information is available with us, the documents are prepared, reviewed and approved.
